The Jet Rodriguez

March 5, 2009

Another friend request on MySpace that has been a joy to listen to.

The Jet Rodriguez, the moniker of Cam Navetta, has an excellent voice- strong yet gentle and the tune Simplest of Times has a great sunshiney reverb vibe to go along with the more traditional folk elements.   Good stuff and one to look out for in the future.

No videos of his tunes but check out his cover of Sufjan Steven’s Casimir Pulaski Day

Hard Week For The Eardrums

February 19, 2009

Bit slow on posting this week since I have been battling a cold and ear infection which has finally taken over the head and had to get some drugs this morning.

I did make the Parts & Labor gig, the thankfully quieter and brilliant Amanda Palmer gig, and the Neil Gaiman/Amanda Palmer book signing so will put those posts up when I can actually sit at the laptop at home without falling asleep…being run down sucks!

The Sky Drops- Clouds Of People Free Download

January 2, 2009

Via a newly discovered blog Milk Milk Lemonade

The Sky Drops are offering all 5 songs from the debut ep Clouds Of People along with 2 tracks from an internet only release for free over at their official site.

I came across these guys last year and they do have a good sound and really nice vibe- I have to admit though that they do seem to be missing that edge that keeps the attention rooted on the tune and sometimes I wished they would crank it up just a bit.

Their new album Bourgeois Beat will be released in 2009 at some stage and if they live up to their claim of  ‘rife with surreal distortion and real life beauty’ then it will be one to check out.   Their old tunes are definitely worth a listen regardless of what I think so head over there to get them now.

SDHC- The Saga Continues

January 2, 2009

Just an update on the previous techie post on using SDHC memory cards on the Thinkpad Z60M laptop (running XP) and the O2 XDA or HTC Universal (running WM5) since I now have an 8gb card that I was trying to get working with them both.

The laptop was fairly easy this time around since I had already updated the drivers for the card reader itself- just needed the Microsoft Hotfix for XP (KB934428) and the full capacity was recognized straight away.

The XDA was a bit more fun -went back to xda-developers.com and tried a couple of different cabs to no avail.  One completely removed the capacity to see any SD card whether it was HC or not but thankfully the sdhc.cab file in the last post restored it back to its normal self before I finally did find one that worked.   The Psidoc_sdhc.cab can be found here and it worked perfectly straight off- so if you have a Universal device running Windows Mobile 5 then chances are good that it will work for you.

A few people reported that it works with the 16gb SDHC cards as well so it is worth a go since it doesn’t appear to break anything as some have reported with the wifi not working after installs of different versions.  The one small issue that people are reporting with this cab is that sometimes Windows Mobile will ‘lose’ the card and it will just need to be re-inserted for it to be recognized again…not a problem for me since the card comes out nightly to swap music around.

Just remember to back up any old files you have before you go changing anything and good luck!

The Lamentable Lack Of Lists for 2008

December 31, 2008

I do love lists believe me, but for some reason come this time of year I don’t like putting numbers on things since I would be forever in a tizzy re-ordering them and there would be more edits on the post than the number of shots of vodka I have downed this year…sizable to say the least!

Wi nøt trei a høliday in Sweden this yër?

It really boils down to Sweden this year- the number of new artists I have heard from there and the new albums from some of the old favourites almost has me packing my bags to move there permanently!

See the løveli lakes

So with no time for writing new posts, I don’t even have time for going through the old ones and will have to leave the lists this year.

The wøndërful telephøne system

There has been a monumental number of great groups that I have heard this year though and hopefully that will continue in 2009- as noted so many places its going to be an interesting year for music and the struggling bands and I hope they can still afford to gig on these shores.

And mäni interesting furry animals

Speaking of which I hear rumours of Animal Collective coming back in March…the very first gig I went to was in the Merriweather Post Pavillion oh so many years ago…The Moody Blues for those curious and damn fine they were even if a bit on the weathered side by then.

Including the majestik møøse

So as a final thought- it has been one hell of a year on a personal note so hopefully 2009 will be a bit calmer and I will have lots more time for gigs, films and friends!

A Møøse once bit my sister...

No realli! She was Karving her initials on the møøse

with the sharpened end of an interspace tøøthbrush given

her by Svenge - her brother-in-law - an Oslo dentist and

star of many Norwegian møvies: "The Høt Hands of an Oslo

Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Mølars of Horst

Nordfink"

Well I am off to watch Jools and his Hootenanny so have a good one folks and see you in the New Year!

Oh Darling- Can’t Wait To Come Home

December 26, 2008

Ahhh finally Christmas day is over and St. Stephens day upon us (or Boxing Day in the UK…and in the States with its nameless ChristmasDayPlusOne!) I can finally relax and there is nothing better than to listen to this charming tune from Oh Darling

Can’t Wait To Come Home– which has some frolicking in the snow and the closest I will get to that in Dublin!
